How to travel with a dog safely?
By car:
• Equipment
– two bowls (one for water, the other for food),
– feed, bottled water,
– the address and telephone number of the owner
– health record book – if necessary, visit a veterinarian,
– dog’s passport if traveling abroad,
– dog seat belts,
– collar, muzzle, leash,
– a mat to carry the dog, on the rear sofa or in the trunk,
– GPS locator,
– favourite dog toy,
– preparation against ticks and mosquitoes,
– disposable droppings bags, useful for cleaning up after your pet.
• Frequent and short stops
• Sun blinds:
The harsh lighting conditions and the heat in the summer can be felt by any traveller. Installing special darkening blinds before the journey will prevent the car from getting too hot and protect the dog from intense solar radiation.
• Motion sickness.
Dogs, like people, can suffer from motion sickness. Before the first trip or when we know a pet’s ailment, it is worth buying a medicine for motion sickness. It will be a good idea to consult your veterinarian about the proper dosage of the medicine.
• Never leave your dog in the car
• Vaccinations
It’s your dog’s duty to watch over them. Remember that rabies vaccination only takes effect after three weeks, so you need to vaccinate your dog well before the planned date of departure. Chip and passport
• Chip and passport
• Small dog – it is recommended to use a transport cage.
By plane:
• Chip, i.e. a microprocessor enabling identification of an animal in case it disappears during transport or stay abroad. It is implanted under the skin.
• Passport with a description of the animal, also issued by a veterinarian. The chip or tattoo number is entered into it.
• Vaccination against rabies or nasal disease and current certificates from the veterinarian about the animal’s state of health, taking into account the regulations of the country from which you are leaving and the one you are going to.
Before you buy a ticket, always check the current rules for transporting animals by plane directly on the carrier’s website!
